New Year’s Resolutions Are Absurd
Sunday Soapbox: New Year’s resolutions are absurd. Implementing grandiose schemes for personal improvement will inevitably result in failure and disappointment. Why punish yourself?
I’m back from my holiday hiatus, and to kick off the New Year, I resolve to make no resolutions. I do have a tentative goal, however. As part of Project 365, I intend to add a blog post every day for 2012. Maybe I’ll make it, maybe I won’t, but I’ll have fun trying, anyway.
Happy New Year!!
How about you? Are you setting goals this year or just content to go with the flow? Tell me in the comments.

I don't make resolutions either! A post a day is very ambitious! I hope you make it.
Happy New Year!
I like your goal
Trying to eat better (healthier) is my constant bête noir … Happy new year!
Oh Amberr – what an ambitious woman you're, One a day? I struggle with 2 a week, which has left me no time for anything else in my life
!
As for New Year Resolutions, you must have read my blog post a week ago – I've been steadfastly doing in for over a decade so I don't see myself stopping in anytime soon
! Well I do try to make realistic ones though, and I am wondering how I can keep up with you
Have a wonderful New Year, and happy blogging!
I'm right there with you. I'll admit that I have 4 things I'm going to do this year, but I don't describe them as resolutions, and since two are things I absolutely WANT to do and they are all within my ability to accomplish, I'm okay with them. No pressure. [pounding on wood!!!! why do I feel like I just sealed my doom?] http://planetpooks.com/?p=3708
I gave up on resolutions as well a few years back instead I set or or two very attainable goals a year at the start of January.
My goal is to go to England. If not that, move back to New Jersey. The latter is a must.
Happy New Year, Amberr….. Good luck with your goals. I stopped making resolutions a long time ago..
Goals are so much better!
I don't make resolutions. I do set goals, though. My business goals (and as a result–business plan) is put in place at the beginning of each year. My personal goals are set at my birthday, when I set aside time to review the past year and consider what I'd like to accomplish or change in the coming one.
My resolution is not to make resolutions. I write out a list of intentions, offer them to Spirit, then put them away until the end of the year.
I run a weekly blog and write daily in a couple of women's writing groups, and it keeps me busy. I thought about the one a day blog, but couldn't figure how to make it work, even though I do write in my journal daily. I trust you'll do fine with your 365 project.
Happy New Year to you! Goals are better than resolutions I think. Here's to an awesome year ahead
Hi Amberr,
It helps me focus my thoughts and energies where they need to be…not that I don't get waylaid now and then.
I know resolutions are not for everyone. But I do love them…and list-making as well.
I also plan to try to post every day in the 365 Project…but it should really be the 366 Project as this is a Leap Year.
We'll see how that goes.
It's hard to find the time to read and comment on all the great blogs out there…like yours…but I'm going to attempt it.
And, I want to work on two writing projects…an interactive board book series for toddlers and a sequel in the Positive Parental Participation series…I'm looking for people to contribute simple holiday recipes and quick and easy holiday crafts…any chosen for the book will result in a free copy of the book to the contributor.
Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family!
I don't like resolutions for the New Year; however, I KNOW that I need to get my family back in order after a year of blogging and seeing our routine fall apart. But that's just something I's do anyways!
Hope you had wonderful holidays. I agree that resolutions are a work-in-progress: you can make them at the beginning of the year but you have to follow-up during the rest of the year. Happy 2012.
I think it's great that you're doing the 366 days! So far so good!
Have a 2012 that's filled with the making of good memories.
I like to make my resolutions and break them as soon as possible so I can get that mess out of the way!
Seriously though, I've had a lot happen in the last half of this year and I recognize some serious changes needed in my life and my direction. 2012 should be an interesting year for me.
I'm so ready for the 'new' part of New Year. I'm getting rid of everything that hasn't worked in the past and I'm open to possibilities. Have no idea where I'm headed, but I'm going to enjoy the ride.
Best of luck to you and the 365 Project. Cant' wait to see your posts.
I'm tempted to try but …. I'm cutting back. But then again, maybe … ?
May the New Year continue to be one of expressing beautifully posts on your blog for all here to read
Oh I'm with you on resolutions lol I like the idea of small gradual changes throughout the entire year. Less pressure, more success, and no beating yourself up if you don't reach goals….
Welcome back! I'm not a big official resolutions person either. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you, too, Maria~
No resolutions here either. Totally agreed.
